It's Time

Okay I've been meaning to get this up here for awhile. Are you feeling like your excited for camping at the beach this summer but want some info? Yes, I thought so. So here's the map of the campground with our sites marked:
The first one on the left is site #001 and it's for Mon-Wed (2 nights)
The next red dot is site #106 Tues-Thurs (2 nights)
The next red dot being under the previous site is #107 Mon-Tues (1 night)
And lastly closest to the beach #90 Thurs-Fri (1 night)

So we need to figure out who's going where and when. Sorry we have no weekend nights but this is all we could get. So we have 2 sites Monday-Wednesday with one group moving from 107 to 106 on Tuesday. But that group can stay there until Thursday. Then Thursday that group or a new group can take 90. We are going to try and get a couple nights at that BW we stayed at last time so let me know if that interests anyone else too.

Check-in is at 2pm check-out at 12 pm so the people moving will have that 2 hr window. Here's the link for more info:
Hopefully we can make this work for everyone :)

Possibly my family takes #001 (with others welcome) (sites are for 8 people but they won't be counting either) which is probably the worst location and then go to BW for a couple nights.

Here's a thought. I found a regional park in San Diego that's not on the beach, but does have lots of space available and lots of good comments about it. Take a look and see if we would want to think again about a place where we can all be as many days as we want. Apparently it's in Chula Vista area. Maybe Sally and Eter could go take a look--if anyone's interested. http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/parks/Camping/sweetwater.html

Here's one more to consider:

I can go check those out if you guys want me to. The second one is a little far from here, out in Jamul, where I just drove through on the way back from AZ.
My opinion is, neither of these is the beach.
Is there a fee for canceling the other spots?
Do people just not want to move around?
Keep in mind that Eter and I (and James) won't really be staying there. It'll be just day visits. So, you don't have to figure us into the plans for sleeping arrangements and rotations.
Also, if we do the baby blessing that week, which Sunday is better? The one before or after?

The beach is a major draw for my family. But if the moving around is too much for everyone I guess we can maybe figure something else out. I don't think there's a fee for cancelling at this point.

Jeff, Randa, Amy- lets get this figured out.

As for me, the priority is having a comfortable, and preferably less crowded camp ground to call home for a few days. love the beach, but having it within driving distance- like less than 30 minutes- would be better than having to move locations every afternoon and listen to that train go by every hour. So,I guess I side with mom in finding a different place.
Depending on the baby blessing, Christina's bridal shower, and how things work out with my coworker, I would like to come down Saturday night and head back on Thursday afternoon.

If we can drive to the beach for the majority of the time I'm fine with switching too.

And THANK YOU Randa :) :)

SORRY! I have been extra busy this week....yes sounds good we REALLY love being a the beach but as long as its close by and the not moving around sounds really good. Dan will only be there the last part as in Fri- Sun. So that would be the better weekend for blessing for us. Do whatever works for the most people though. Nice that it has a pool too we can swim after the beach in the evenings!

To give everyone a little more info on the site in Sweetwater (the other is a 40 min drive to the beach, too far if you ask me):

-It's about a 20 min drive to Coronado Beach.

-It does not have a pool. It looks like it has a kids water park (not like Raging Waters, but the kind that shoots water out of tubes and the ground, etc) which could be fun for the kids.

-It has a lot of horse trails, and you can bring your horse.... I don't know if that means horseback riding is also an option. But it usually costs a lot, too.

-It has some panoramic hikes of the reservoir and surrounding hills and highways.

-I don't remember how much the original beach campground costs, but this one is $24-28 per night per site. Seems pricey to me! How many would we need? There are some that say big family site, and it doesn't look like they cost more.

-It does look like a pretty place, and it's really close to David and Fresca's house if anyone needs a real shower.

-It's about 25 min from my house, if you need more baby time. The original one is about 30 min, so same to me really.

-I think all of the spots are for RV's, but some of them allow tents, too. The full hook up ones have electricity and water. The partial just have water. There is only one bathroom that I can see on the map, but I guess most people are using their RV bathrooms. I'm not clear if there are showers or not.

-It also looks like there are plenty of spots left, so we could be there during weekends, too.

-The beach campground has the advantage that the Best Western is right there. Last time it seemed that some people liked having access to real showers and a comfy hotel room close by (at Dana's discount prices.)

It's all the same to me, really, since we won't be sleeping there. Just giving you the pro's and con's.

Okay well if its what everyone wants then I'll cancel the beach. This is actually cheaper per night. I'll text Jeff to make sure he reads this and has a say. We would need to figure out which nights still. Dana has the whole week off so we could go to the blessing at either end of the week. Although I'd rather do the Sunday before so we still have clean clothes, etc. But obviously if Dan can't go then, lets do it after.

Sal- thanks for posting all that info. Why did you think there was a pool Amy?

I agree that the closer one to the beach is better. It would be fun to visit Dave and Fresca too.

That sounds good to me. Though I do hope there is a bathroom and shower, but I'm sure it'll work out.
I think the blessing on the 7th will work.

I'll go with whatever the majority wants but what Sally was describing didn't sound all that good to me.

I don't really mind moving around each night. Being 20 minutes from the beach is going to mean a lot planning and coordinating with everyone to get from the camp ground to the beach. Plus that means having to pack all our food down to the beach with us and coming back early enough to eat dinner.

20 minutes is not all that close. I mean Mom's house is only 30 minutes from a beach and it's a lot more comfortable. I think it's going to mean a lot more hassle for those of you that have kids than it is for me but it just seems like being 20 minutes from the beach is going to be more inconvenient then moving camp grounds every couple days. Also I agree that it is nice to have that Best Western so close by. And obviously when we run out of camp grounds we could move everything to the park.

Again I'll go with what the majority decides especially since I doubt I'll be able to be there the whole week but that's what I think.

Sally said...

Finally, Jeff! I agree with all that you said (while still recognizing that I don't get a vote, nor do I need one.)

It might be easier to move camp sites when you can send all the kids down to the beach during the process, than to plan beach trips and food for the day, and also having to force them to come home before they're ready.

Sounds like Jeff is offering to help move stuff... he he.

Plus, traffic might be something to think about on the drive back to camp around dinner time....

And good point that we could move to the park for the weekend. Duh. Why didn't I even think of that option?

Mom said...

Jeff makes some good points...I'll support whatever the families with kids prefer. They get the main votes.

Kate said...

How about people interested in the BW let me know and I'll look at the availability and what the rates will be. Originally I was hoping we could figure out who's moving when so the same people aren't moving each time. I guess I need to look at that closer to see if it's possible. But like if someone couldn't get there until like Thurs, they'd just have that 1 night at #90 and then maybe we'd move to the park?
Jeff, when will you know which days you can go?

Kate said...

I called sweetwater and there are 3 bathroom locations open 24 hrs and one of them has 18 hot showers.

Miranda said...

I think everyone has good points. And I think this discussion could go on for another 3 months, so...

Kate and Amy are the ones with the most stuff to move around and they are the ones who will be there the longest, so they should make the final decision. It seems safe to say that the rest of us will go along with what they decide.
Good luck and let us know.

Sally said...

Any decisions yet, older sisters?

Just curious.

Kate said...

When did you decide to have the blessing?
We did decide to keep all the beach camping days.
